TISS Celebrates HUB Meet

TISS-SVE celebrates its 4th Annual Partner Meet

Mumbai, March 12, 2019: The School of Vocational Education (SVE) established by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) hosted the Annual Partner Meet today. The event witnessed various industry partners and dignitaries congregate to discuss the diverse aspects of vocational education and training delivered by TISS-SVE in India.

With a presence in 19 sectors – Agriculture, Automotive, Banking Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Child Care, Geriatric Care, Dialysis Technology, Electronics, Hospitality, Health Care, Industrial Safety, Industrial Tool Manufacturing, Information Technology Enabling Services (ITeS), Management and Entrepreneurship (MEPS), Media and Entertainment, Pharmaceuticals, Printing and Packaging Technology, Renewable Energy, Telecom, Travel and Tourism, across 70 cities,  TISS–SVE has adopted the Work Integrated Training model to provide effective learning. The concept of work-integrated training has been borrowed from the German model of vocational education and has been modified to suit the Indian context.

The courses are largely aimed at marginalized youth who are seeking non-formal educational methods to enhance earning capabilities and thereby improve livelihood conditions. The courses are based on the guidelines developed by National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) guidelines of UGC and allow the students who have completed 12th standard or equivalent to join directly for a B.Voc course. TISS-SVE which has close to 10,000 students enrolled for B.Voc and PG programmes boasts of a successful placement rate of 85% in the industry.

On this joyous occasion, Prof. Shalini Bharat, Director TISS, said, “This is indeed a great moment for us. With every passing year, we intend to further diversify our reach to help students reach their goal with these carefully curated vocational programmes. I would also like to congratulate the top performers. Remember that everyone present here is a winner. Stay focussed, be motivated and with due diligence, success will be yours!” Adding to Prof. Shalini Bharat’s thought, Prof. Neela Dabir, Dean TISS-SVE, stated, “Vocational Educational has imparted the opportunity to give a professional edge in a wide array of domains, thereby creating a different breed of professionals – determined to succeed in the world.”.

As the evening progressed, the top performing partners – Vertical Anchors and Training Hub Partners were felicitated by Dr. O P Goel, General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility & Head, Vocational Training (India), Bosch Limited and other dignitaries. The partners, while sharing their success stories, shared key learnings to address regular concerns pertaining to payment issues, mobilising the students and publicity vehicles to be adopted.
